Canada Etiquette Tips

Do's and Don'ts in Canada
Canada might be a land with beautiful landscapes and wonderful wildlife, but there are a few things to keep in mind when traveling through and inbetween Canada.

Canada Do's

  • Do keep in mind that the tempuratures in Cananda can range from 104 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to -40 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.
  • Do bring an electrical converter for your appliances.
  • Do tip. Like in the US, in Canada it is customary to tip 10% to 20% for services. Always make sure to check if service charge was included in the bill.
  • Do respect wildlife laws.
  • Do find out if your medications are legal in Canada.
  • Do keep your valuables in the hotel safe.
  • Do keep in mind the heavy snowfall in Canada.

Canada Don'ts

  • Don't drink in public in Canada.
  • Don't smoke in British Columbia, smoking is banned in most public spaces.
  • Don't get into a taxi without noting the cab number and name of the driver.
  • Don't do anything negative to the Canadian flag.
  • Don't make fun of anyone's accent. Canadians are generally friendly but that doesn't mean you should disrespect them.

Although you might find the list of Canada etiquette to be daunting, if you follow the lead of the locals you will be fine. Respect your hosts and avoid making any faux pas. Most of all; enjoy your travels to Canada!
