Fiestas, flamenco and bull fighting – these are often the cliches associated with Spain and yet there is so much more to this exciting country. Of course there are lots of celebrations going on and bull fighting is still something that is performed for the crowds but it is not the be all and end all of Spain. Spain is known for its diversity, great climate and fantastic beaches.
Madrid, the capital city of Spain, has a colorful history and a rich and vibrant culture. Since 1561, the city has been the political base of the country and home to the monarchy, and in the years following Charles III, it started to transform into a deserving capital city.
The perfect combination of old and new, Barcelona is the capital of Spain's Catalonia region. As one of the oldest cities in Europe, Barcelona offers a real sense of history. A walk down the street is a feast for the eyes, with gorgeous architecture dating back centuries.
Would you prefer to go to the beach or in the city? There is so much to see in Malaga, but if you get a little tired, just go and chill on the beach Malagueta. The centre of the city is (almost) completely car-free. Cathedral La Manquita is one to highlight (literally and figuratively). At night it is beautifully illuminated.
Islands always seem to have a special feeling about them and Mallorca is no exception. The largest of the three Balearic Islands just off the east coast of Spain and in the idyllic Mediterranean Sea, it has a long tradition of tourism and flights to Palma de Mallorca, which is the capital.
The tempting taste of tapas, the glorious sight of surreal architecture, and the grandeur of the Pyrenees are just some of the wonderful experiences to be had when visiting Spain. It is the country of bullfighting, sunning yourself on the nearest beach, and indulging in sangria late into the night while listening to the click clack of canastas.
Flying to Spain? Spaniards are very friendly people but tend to be patriotic and proud of their heritage, and because of this it's important to learn a bit about Spanish etiquette in order to better enjoy your time in Spain.
