Events in Paris

As one of the largest and most culturally important cities in the world, the French capital plays host to an enormous calendar of events each year. From fashion weeks to national celebrations, here's the best of the city's annual festivities.

Fashion Weeks (March)

The first, and most significant, of two fashion weeks in the city takes place in March each year when designers showcase ready-to-wear (pret-a-porter) clothes for the later seasons. The second occurs in October and features clothes for the following spring/summer.

French Tennis Open (May)

This championship is the French equivalent of Wimbledon in the UK. The last week in May witnesses the world's best tennis players come to Paris to battle it out. Large screens are set up in front of the Hotel De Ville for those who can't get tickets.

Solidays (June)

This increasingly popular Parisian music event is held at the end of June each year and lasts for three days. Headline acts are often big names and all profits go towards the fight against AIDS.

Bastille Day (July)

Celebrated each year on the 14th July, this day commemorates the day France became a republic. Street parties, parades and an evening of frivolities and fireworks mark this momentous occasion. Head to the Montparnasse Tower or the gardens of the Eiffel Tower to get a good view.

Paris Plage (July/August)

If you want to add a bit of beach life to your city break then head to Paris during the months of July and August. You can see for yourself how the banks of the Seine are transformed into a fabulous artificial beach.
