2. Play a game: Two Truths and a Lie
3. Try something new and prepare dinner together
4. Prepare a snack and delicious dessert

7. Create a travel bucket list as a couple
1. Create the right atmosphere
Choose a theme (or destination) and decorate the place
First of all, you need to create that right atmosphere, so it's time to do some decorating! Gather some props and decorate the apartment or maybe even just one room will change your usual living quarters into a short-term vacation getaway with a few additional items. Here are some ideas:
- Seasons: Are you thinking more along the lines of a beach holiday or a winter wonderland for your next getaway? Grab your beach towels, flip flops, skis, snowboards, maybe a few plush dolls (dolphins or white bears) will be a nice addition.
- Destinations: Think of a place you've been wanting to visit with your partner. For example, if Paris is that destination, how about a small scale Eiffel Tower on the table, nice French music in the background, a bottle of French wine, etc.
2. Play a game: Two Truths and a Lie
Add some time to play a fun game together with your partner. How about playing a game and getting to know something new that you never knew before with a few rounds of Two Truths and a Lie.
How to play the game
Each player grabs a piece of paper and a pen. Each person writes two true statements and one false statement themselves in relation to the following questions. Take about 5-7 minutes to think of the statements to present and write them down. After taking turns presenting the 3 statements and guess which statements are true vs false. It's up to you to see if you want the other partner to do something if they get the wrong answer.
- Destinations you want to visit or travel in the future
- Unique travel experiences you've had on your past trips (Examples: swam with sharks, ate a bug, visited a World Heritage Site, etc)
- Travel pet peeves (Examples: tardiness, people taking their shoes off on planes, not trying new cultural experiences, etc)
*Key points: 1. Make sure your partner doesn't see your notes 2. When you present the 3 statements, make sure to mix the orders around
3. Try something new and prepare dinner together
Why not prepare your dinner together? Look up some interesting, but delicious recipes to make together. Do you like eating Japanese food, but actually don't know how to make some of your favorite dishes?
Tasting time!
We have a few more ideas when it comes to having some fun while dining: 1. Wine tasting 2. Cheese tasting 3. Chocolate tasting.
Grab a few varieties from different origins and first taste a bit of each. One person would secretly choose one for the other to do a blind taste (they should have their eyes closed). Have them taste the sample again and have them guess which wine/cheese/chocolate it was. For example, wines from Europe, wines from North America, wines from Australia, a cheeseboard with various types of cheese, chocolates from various parts of the world.
Game on! Who's pizza is better?
You might want to let the other partner know in advance if they want to get a head start on using their creativity. The idea is that both of you will create an original pizza. Prepare the dough, but the sauce and toppings is all up to the chef: you and your partner!
Taste both of the pizzas and see who's pizza tasted better!
4. Prepare a snack and delicious dessert
If you're more of the "I'd rather order my food than to test my own cooking skills" then how about bringing down the hurdle with preparing just a dessert? The world is full of delicious sweets to taste. We have some on our blog about top desserts from around the world! You can also gather some unique variety of snacks from all over the world to try with your partner.
5. Watch a foreign film
Select a few foreign movie items to watch that day and see which one your partner would like to watch with you. Look through the movie recommendations and make sure you're selecting a nice genre. Maybe romantic-comedy over horror?
6. Virtual tours around the world
Due to the pandemic, there are now various "virtual tour options". From famous landmarks and museums to actual tours where operators conduct a live docent-led online tour, virtual tours are considered a new travel experience. Although it's not the same as the 'hands-on' experience (sense of touch and smell), it does, however, provide you a "taste" of the atmosphere and helps you determine whether to actually visit the place in person.
7. Create a travel bucket list as a couple
Most importantly the question to ask is: "Where would you like to go together?". Do you already have a travel bucket list or have an idea of the destinations you would like to travel to next? Sit down together and make a list of getaway destinations you'll like to visit one day. If you need steps on how to create your very own list, then be sure to read our blog about how to start a travel bucket list for inspiration.
Especially if you haven't been able to travel much in the past years, but enjoy exploring the world, we hope our ideas have helped your mind to bring that inspiration at home with your special someone.

Hi. I always remind myself to discover or try something new when I travel. This always includes finding something delicious to eat. Some of my most memorable travel destinations so far include Japan, New Zealand, and the UAE.
