Top UNESCO world heritage sites
There are over 1,000 World Heritage Sites in 160+ states across the globe, with Italy, China, Spain and France having the most amount of sites per country. These sites are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful, and most important, places on Earth. Fancy seeing the best ones? Here are our favourites.
Canadian Rockies, Canada
The Canadian Rockies are simply stunning. Check this out! Can you imagine having this view?!
Machu Picchu, Peru
The purpose of the ancient Inca city in the mountains in Peru might be unknown, but it is still one of the most popular UNESCO sites in the world. Feeling energetic? You could also hike the Inca Trail and finish at Machu Picchu. But make sure to book well in-advance; there are only a certain number of permits allowed per day.
Taj Mahal, India
A truely romantic love story, the Taj Mahal was built to honour the Emperor's dead wife whom he loved dearly. Building started in the 17th Century, but the Taj Mahal is still as striking and elegant as ever.
Plitvice Lakes, Croatia
Croatia is known for being naturally gorgeous, but the waterfalls at the Plitvice Lakes are something else. Be prepared to be blown away as you walk around the turquoise water and enjoy the amazing atmosphere.
Yellowstone National Park, United States
Yellowstone National Park is incredible. With grizzly bears, hot springs, geysers, a grand canyon and waterfalls, there are plenty of things to keep you entertained.
Te Wahipounamu, New Zealand
With fjords, valleys and lakes, this National Park in New Zealand will blow you away. Think Middle Earth, literally, as the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy was shot in New Zealand.
Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
The oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World, the ancient Pyramids of Giza are certainly striking. With so much history, the Pyramids are culturally important and should definitely not be missed.
