Royal Mint
Do you remember where seasons 1 and 2 were filmed? This was mainly in the Royal Mint in Madrid. The building is not a real bank. This building is used by the CSIC, the Spanish National Research Council, the largest scientific research institute in Europe. You may not enter the building, but it is still nice to walk by to see where the series has been shot.
Plaza del Callao
Remember the big zeppelin that dropped a lot of money all over the city? This was filmed above the Plaza del Callao in Madrid. It is one of the most centrally located squares in Madrid. It is a very lively square with many shops, large screens and the iconic Callao cinemas. This square is a smaller version of Times Square.
Paseo de la Castellana
What are the four big buildings that the zeppelin flies through? Known as The Four Towers, these tall skyscrapers are located in the business area of Madrid.
Ministry of Public Works and Transport: The Spanish Bank
The Spanish Bank building is actually the building of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The building has a nice appearance which made it seem quite credible that this was the Spanish Bank. However, the real Spanish Bank is much more graceful as you can see in the image below. The interior that appears in the series is also not the same as in the real Spanish Bank. The manufacturers have made an attempt to copy the interior, but the permit was rejected for safety reasons. That makes sense when you consider that after watching La Casa de Papel the whole world knows how to get to the safe.
San Frutos Hermitage
The monastery where Berlin resides is 87 miles from the city center of Madrid in the province of Segovia. The Natural Park of Hoces del Duraton is a beautiful place that is very popular among the inhabitants of the city who want to spend a day in nature. From the viewpoint of San Frutos, you have a spectacular view of the Duratón River and the building that attracted a lot of attention: the hermitage of San Frutos.
San Blas Islands
The third season starts with scenes on a paradise island. Tokyo and Rio are hiding here. It is actually an archipelago (archipelago) of nearly 400 islands scattered along Panama's Caribbean coast. This destination has become even more famous after the third season.
La Casa de Papel Escape Room
Did you know that La Casa de Papel has its own escape room in Madrid? An escape room is a game in which you are locked up in a room with a group. The aim is to find a way out through puzzles and riddles. The escape room of La Casa de Papel is next to the real Royal Mint (the place where seasons 1 and 2 were filmed) which makes it even more fun!
When you enter the escape room you even get a red overall, just like in the series. Singing 'Bella Ciao' is also part of it. You have to experience the rest yourself, because we prefer not to reveal the rest, but we think that this will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
Have you always wanted to visit Madrid? Don't miss these locations and buy your flight tickets here.
