Thai Airways is the premier airline of Thailand and the flag-carrying service of that airline. Thai Airlines is a public company, however, 50% of its shares is owned by the Thai government's Ministry of Transport.
The head office of Thai Airways isn't in an airport, but is on Bangkok's Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, one of the city's major highways. The airline's base of operations is Suvarnabhumi Airport, colloquially known as "Bangkok Airport". Thai Airways has 2 lounges at the airport, a standard lounge with all expected amenities and a super-luxurious Royal Silk lounge. Thai Airways' Business Class passengers are known as "Royal Silk Passengers".
Thai Airways fly to domestic destinations across Thailand and to 37 countries worldwide, to over 84 airports. Thai Airways has a fleet of over 90 aircraft, and have recently added many Airbus A320 crafts to their fleet. However, passengers are still most likely to fly with an Airbus A330 or a Boeing 777 when they take to the skies with Thai Airways.
Popular domestic destinations in which Thai Airways flies to include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Koh Samui, and Udon Thani. Thai Airways flies passengers to international destinations including Seoul, Beijing, Barcelona, Cairo, Geneva, New York, and many more across North America, Asia, and Europe.
Thailand has no always had the best reputation when it comes to air safety, but in 2019 they were upgraded by the Federal Aviation Authority and given a Category 1 safety rating, after a poor performance in 2015.
Thai Airways are part of the Star Alliance program. With the Star Alliances' Miles & More program, passengers accrue frequent flyer miles every time they fly with Thai Airways or other worldwide Star Alliance airlines. Not only do passengers get points when they fly, but they also accrue them whenever they book a hotel and use their credit card.
