TAP Air Portugal is Portugal's flag-carrying airline and is based in Lisbon. TAP Air's headquarters are in Lisbon Airport, also known as Portela Airport or Humberto Delgado Airport. Lisbon Airport is home to TAP Air's flagship lounge, which has a buffet bar, kid's play area, complimentary entertainment and more.
TAP Air stands for 'Transportes Aéreos Portugueses'. The airline was founded during the Second World War and became a commercial airliner in 1946. TAP Air Portugal's first route was from Lisbon to Madrid. Today, TAP Air Portugal fly approximately 90 million passengers to their destinations each year. TAP Air was owned by the Portuguese state until 2015, when it became the newest acquisition of the Atlantic Gateway Consortium. The Atlantic Gateway Consortium is managed by airline entrepreneur David Neeleman, who founded 5 airlines and manages many more alongside TAP Air Portugal.
The TAP Air slogan has been 'TAP Air With Arms Wide Open' since 2011, when it was launched alongside a music video starring 3 Portuguese language popstars: Mariza from Portugal, Paolo Flores from Angola and Roberta de Sá from Brazil.
TAP Air Portugal flies to seven domestic destinations, including the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, and popular beach destinations like Faro and Funchal in Madeira. TAP Air also flies internationally, providing routes to 84 destinations in 36 countries. Outside of Portugal, TAP Air has the most extensive coverage in Brazil, where it's been established since the 1970s. TAP Air has recently expanded its North American flights and now flies to Lisbon and Porto from destinations including Miami, Chicago, and Montreal. TAP Air operates flights between all major European capitals, including London, Berlin, and Madrid. TAP Air has roughly 100 aircraft in its fleet, most of which are Airbus models, including A320s, A321s and brand-new A330neos.
In 2011, TAP Air Portugal was rated Europe's safest airline and was considered one of the four safest airlines worldwide, including Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Finnair. Alongside this accolade, TAP Air was recently named as having 'the world's most handsome crew' by Monocle Magazine.
TAP Air Portugal is part of the Star Alliance frequent flyer program. TAP Air Portugal provides a comfortable cabin experience for all passengers, with Economy Class enjoying only slightly less of the luxury that's standard in Business Class. The seat pitch on TAP Air Portugal flights is typically 30" (76,2 cm), whereas the seat width is 16.8" (42,7 cm). TAP Air does not allow any recline on economy seats, so you'll never feel crushed by the person in front of you. Business Class passengers enjoy an upgrade on the previous Thompson Vantage seats with a new, fully-flat model to recline completely.
All passengers on TAP Air Portugal flights enjoy a full meal. Depending on the time of day you travel, you can expect to enjoy a hot meal, cold meal, sandwich, or snack as standard. Cold meals and snacks typically consist of Portuguese cured meats and cheeses, served with traditional pastries. Business Class passengers enjoy freshly prepared Portuguese dishes designed by a chef, and they can typically choose between hot or cold meals. Alcoholic beverages are complimentary in Business Class.

Every passenger is allowed to carry one small piece of hand luggage as standard.
Those in Economy Class are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage, whereas those in executive class can carry 2 pieces of hand luggage onboard. Executive travelers are allowed to check-in 2 items of hold luggage, whereas economy passengers have to pay additional for each piece of hold luggage.
Business Class
Business Class passengers can take 2 pieces of hand luggage on board no larger than 8 kg (17 lb) and 55 x 40 x 20 cm (21 x 15 x 7 inches) and check 2 pieces into the hold no larger than 158 cm (62 inches) in size and 32 kg (70 Ibs) , as standard.
Economy Class
Economy Class passengers are permitted to carry on one piece of hand luggage no larger than 8 kg (17 lb) and 55 x 40 x 20 cm (21 x 15 x 7 inches) and to check in one piece of hold luggage no larger than 158 cm (62 inches) in size and 23 kg (50 Ibs) for a fee. Any additional bags will be more expensive.
Hold baggage must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches) in size and 23 kg (50 Ibs). Hand luggage must not exceed 8 kg (17 lb) and 55 x 40 x 20 cm (21 x 15 x 7 inches).
Passengers can book bikes or special equipment onboard after consultation with TAP Air Portugal.
