Events in Munich

Munich is a massive city, and as you would expect from one of Europe's great cultural and economic centres, there's always plenty going on. Why not time your visit to coincide with major events in the city? Everyone will find Munich rewarding, so take your pick from our list below.

Oktoberfest (September)

Every September (not October), the city devotes itself to one thing - beer. Oktoberfest is the world's largest beer festival, luring millions of people every year to massive beer tents in the Theresienwiese event space. If you want to meet locals and sample Bavarian brews like Paulaner or Erdinger, there's no better place to do so.

The Echelon Music Festival (August)

The city isn't just about cars and beer. It also hosts major music events, and nothing is bigger than Echelon. This open air festival takes place every August in nearby Bad Aibling and attracts 25,000 revellers to watch world famous DJs and dance music acts.

Opera for All (June - July)

For a completely different musical experience, why not visit during the Opera for All Festival? Organised by the Bavarian State Opera, events run throughout June and July and include spectacular shows such as live opera broadcasts in Max-Joseph-Platz and open air concerts.

Experience the Fun of Fasching (January - February)

Fasching is Bavaria's biggest party. Taking place every January and February, it's the city's equivalent to the Kölner Karneval (Cologne Carnival). See the crowning of the Fasching Prince and Princess, attend colourful Fasching balls and join the raucous party on Shrove Tuesday as the event climaxes.
