Where to stay in Copenhagen

The one thing to note about Copenhagen is its homage to style. Everywhere you look, your eyes will be greeted with chic Nordic lines of a certain building, interior design so cool you want to take the item home and locals who dress casually but still with a great sense of style. It is the same with the hotels Copenhagen offers.

The hotels Copenhagen has can be splendidly luxurious townhouses, stylish designery boutique places or (relatively) cheap and cheerful budget types. It is not the place to come for dirt cheap accommodation; that will not happen as the hotels Copenhagen has are pricey. However booking in advance for a hotel Copenhagen has might get you a good deal.

Rooms with a view

Many of the hotels Copenhagen has offer spectacular views over the city. One of the most famous hotels Copenhagen has is the SAS Radisson Royal, designed by Arne Jacobsen, Denmark’s most influential architect. Completed in 1960, it was the world’s first design hotel and the country’s first skyscraper. You can even visit Room 606 which still has all the original designer furniture in it, including the iconic ‘Egg’ and ‘Swan’ chairs.

Other hotels Copenhagen has have views over the waters, canals and sights of the city. Some hotels Copenhagen has are situated on the coast and offer the delights of the sea and countryside, while the more central hotels Copenhagen has overlook Tivoli Gardens and many other attractions.

Water ways

Being right on the sea has benefitted Copenhagen enormously, from its days as a simple fishing village to its rightful place as the centre for Nordic cuisine with one particular restaurant, Noma, being repeatedly voted the best in the world. Cuisine within many of the hotels Copenhagen has is also top notch.

The cleanliness of the city is very important, in fact so much that you can swim in the harbour. There is also the Copenhagen Harbour Baths, open from June to August. The beaches are just a walk away from the centre, with one to the east stretching for over 4kms.

Must-see museums

Copenhagen is littered with great museums covering a range of subjects. The National Museum is Denmark’s biggest museum of cultural history with exhibits from an Iron Age cauldron to a Bronze Age sun chariot and the world’s oldest surviving painting done by South American Indians.

For a taste of the local brew, try the Carlsberg Visitors Centre & Jacobsen Brewhouse where you will be taken through the history of beer making and the brewing process.
