Where to stay in Bogota?

The bustling capital of Colombia, Bogota, is a vibrant and exciting city full of history, culture, cuisine and nightlife. Its high altitude setting is a feast for the eyes, with awe-inspiring mountains rising up from the mist along the city's outer limits.

While there are reasons to be cautious in certain areas of the city, Bogota is much safer than its reputation might imply. Many of the city's multifarious and colourful neighbourhoods are safe to wander around, even at night so you’ll not want a choice for places to stay.

A city of variety

This diverse and complex city hosts a dazzling array of accommodation catering to all tastes. If you're looking for luxury, there is a slew of high-end hotels rising from the fringes of many of the gorgeous patches of green space at the centre of the city. If you're looking for somewhere a little cheaper, the options for characterful boutique hotels are plentiful too and the thriving backpacker scene leaves the city well set-up with hostels and budget digs.

As a place steeped in history, the cityscape is a patchwork of interlocking and intermixing neighbourhoods, each with their own unique atmosphere and each offering a spread of accommodation options. The city's Old Town, with its fabulous cathedrals and museums, evokes a sense of eras past. The intricate and absorbing architecture of the city’s colonial era rubs shoulders with the country’s forward-thinking metropolitan present. At the other end of the spectrum is the Bogota International Centre, the city’s financial district with its towering glass skyscrapers and luxury hotels, marking Colombia’s capital as a truly modern metropolis.

Gorgeous green space

Nestled amongst the Colombian Andes, Bogota is a city where nature never feels far away. It sits on a spacious, high-altitude plateau so, despite being fringed by mountains on many sides, there is plenty of space for sprawl. It’s a fact the city makes good use of with generous splashes of greenspace. If you're at home amongst the trees, the neighbourhood of Teusaquillo is worth exploring. It tends to be a little quieter than much of the central area with lots of open space and even a lake. The array of hotels that sit alongside Teusaquillo’s many parks are great options for people with a penchant for peace and quiet.

If you are looking for something a little quainter, try the charmingly rustic neighbourhood of Usaquen. Originally a small countryside village, the area became part of Bogota in 1953 when the city came to envelop it. Since then, it has developed a reputation as a little slice of rural Colombia in the heart of the country's capital.

Fashion, cuisine and nightlife

Any talk of accommodation in Bogota would be incomplete without mentioning the city's trendiest area. Chapinero is made up of a patchwork of smaller neighbourhoods famed for their bohemian bars and outstanding food scene. Two spots worth a special mention are Zona T and Zona G.

Zona T is a t-shaped area of pedestrianised streets full of shops, bars and nightclubs as well as a characteristically diverse set of accommodation options. If you're looking for an air of sophistication and luxury, you won't want for much here. Zona G is the undisputed spot for food. This little slice of foodie heaven is home to some of the city's most famous restaurants alongside a glorious spread of street-food stalls and snack masters.

A room with a view

Bogota is the fourth-highest capital in the world, and there’s no understating the impact of its spectacular setting - it's a place that begs to be seen from on high. You could take a hike and see it from atop its nearest mountain peaks, but the city also hosts a range of hotels with views of their own. Places like the Click-Clack hotel or La Colina Hotel Cottage are well known for their cityscape views.

Bogota’s high-altitude setting gives the city a forgiving climate. The temperature is generally cool all year round but the best time to visit is generally said to be January and February when it rises slightly. But, with the temperature varying only slightly across all twelve months, there's never a bad time to go. No matter when you plan your trip, BudgetAir has you covered, offering great prices on flights to Bogota all year round.
