Sometimes letting others do the hard work while you are on holiday gives you the feeling of a total break. A guided tour of the capital is a great idea if you plan to go on a city break to Lima. Left in expert hands, your city break to Lima will be much more enjoyable as you can relax and learn at the same time.
Many tour companies can guide you around the city, taking in all the major sights, as well as nearby archaeological sites. Pachacamac is an important Inca site with a host of temple-pyramids and palaces to explore that is about 30km from Lima. Think how much richer your city break to Lima will be.
Lima is the perfect capital to explore for a two day city trip as many of the colonial sights are within a relatively small area in central Lima. Here are a few ideas on what to do if you are on a 48-hour city break to Lima:
Day 1
Start off your city break to Lima with a walking tour of the colonial area. Discover sights such as the catacombs, San Francisco church and the cathedral in Plaza Mayor. Carry on to Plaza San Martin to see a statue of Madre Patria, the symbolic mother of Peru. If you look at her head there is a little llama on top instead of a crown of flames. A strange place you might think but the Spanish word for flame is llama...hence the confusion! This piece was commissioned in Spain.
Day 2
Lima's heritage will become clearer on the second day of your city break when spending a few hours in the Museo de la Nacion. Then for fun, pop into the Museo Larco to have a look at the pots painted with erotic scenes.
Lima has it all. From paragliding, surfing, horse riding and diving, all within a few miles of the city. Get your heart rate pumping by jumping off a cliff...with a sail attached! You can either paraglide tandem with an instructor, or take an intensive six-day course and hopefully be expert by the end of the course. One of the favoured cycling routes is the 31km ride to Pachacamac. There are many shops where you can rent bikes, and most importantly, where they carry out repairs as well.
Lima is hard to beat as it is a capital in the heart of a continent that is burgeoning with new ideas and ways to move forward. The Peruvian spirit thrives and a city break to Lima will never be forgotten. Do not forget to book your flights through BudgetAir Canada for great deals at competitive prices.
