Halloween is almost here! Even if you're away from the United States, you could definitely find some great and creepy events in Europe as well. Let's see some of the most popular destinations for the 31st of October.
1. Transylvania, Romania
You'll have all probably heard about the Dracula legend that has made this city really popular around the world. Transylvania has a special atmosphere which makes it the ideal destination for a Halloween city break. Don't miss the Halloween party at Hunyad's castle and, of course, the exclusive nighttime event at Dracula's castle.
2. Venice, Italy
Well, Venice may be one of the most popular romantic destinations for couples but it could also offer you a more sophisticated experience at Halloween. Shops are full of decorations, while locals organize theme parties around the city. One good option could be the Doge's Palace Secret Itineraries Tour, where you'll have the opportunity to see the palace's secret chambers, prisons and torture rooms.
3. Edinburgh, Scotland
Even if you're with friends or family, Edinburgh remains always a "place to be" at Halloween. The vibes of the medieval city, combined with the ancient traditions of the country, create the perfect atmosphere for the last days of October. In Edinburgh's Old Town, Samhuinn Fire Festival is organized once again, in which locals wear colourful, folklore costumes and celebrate the winter's arrival.
4. Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, so an idea to visit it remains always great. Halloween was not a popular celebration for the Hungarians, however, during the last few years, more and more young people got in the mood by organizing parties, festivals and events in the city centre. Dracula is waiting for you in the Labyrinth of Buda Castle (the legendary Vlad Tepes was kept there in the 15th century). Don't forget also to check the Pumpkin Lantern Festival at Heroes' Square; a charity event where the food items brought by people are sent to non-profit organizations.
5. Dublin, Ireland
During this period, you have the chance to experience a different side of Dublin and discover some spooky events around the city centre. If you have kids, the Spooktacular Boo at Dublin Zoo could be a great option for you. Creepy crafts, face painting and a dinosaur exhibition are some of the things you will find there. In case you love music, Samhain Festival is ideal for you. This festival takes place in October 28th and 29th and Liam Gallagher (former Oasis frontman) will be this year's headline act.
