One of South Korea's Top Affordable Airlines: Asiana Airlines
Asiana Airlines is one of the two main airlines in South Korea and is headquarted in Seoul. The airline was established in 1988 and was initially using Boeing 737 Classic planes that flew to Gwangju and Busan. In 1989, Asiana began services to Jeju City and Daegu, and the airline later added charter flights to Sendai in Japan to its roster. In 1990, Asiana began scheduled international flights to Tokyo, Nagoya, Sendai and Fukuoka with its fleet of 9 Boeing 747-400s, 10 Boeing 767-300s and 8 Boeing 737-400s. Services to Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Taipei were added soon after as well as transatlantic flights to Los Angeles. By the mid-1990s, the airline has services to Honolulu, Brussels and Vienna, and in 2003, the airline became a fully-fledged member of the Star Alliance and expanded routes into mainland China.
Asiana Airlines has predominantly focused on long-haul services and on modernising its fleet. The airline has a reputation for being environmentally friendly; it was recognised for being the 'first environmentally friendly company within the service industry' in 2001 by the Ministry of Environment, with environmentally focussed measures including emission measurement and reduction, the reduction of pollution from ground facilities and serving Rainforest Alliance coffee on board. At present, the airline flies to 71 cities in 23 countries on 91 routes and has domestic services to 12 cities on 14 routes.
