Air China: Your World, Our Flights
Established in 1988 and formerly part of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the airline acquired the CAAs fleet of Boeing 747s, 767s, 707s and took responsibility for the association's intercontinental flights. By 2001, the airline had merged with China Southwest Airlines and boasted an impressive fleet of 118 aircraft.
Such was the airline's success that by 2006 they had joined the Star Alliance, the world's largest global alliance, and by 2010 had received the Plaque for Tourist Merit -- one of Spain's highest accolades for tourism.
The airline has been lauded for its pioneering initiatives, such as introducing the nation's first combined tickets that offered shuttle bus services to nearby towns. Air China was also the first airline in the country to offer onboard, WiFi internet services and in 2013 introduced Wireless Lan in-flight.
Today, Air China employs more than 50,000 staff, flies to more than 200 destinations, boasts a substantial fleet of almost 400 aircraft and in 2015, carried more than 90 million passengers.
