Philippine Airlines - The Flag Carrier Of The Philippines
The national carrier of the Philippines, Philippine Airlines was founded in 1941 and is the oldest commercial airline in Asia that has continuously operated under the same name. Operating out of hubs at several airports including Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu, the airline serves 30 domestic and over 40 international destinations including cities in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, North America and Europe. It is known as one of the largest airlines in Asia and after building up its fleet, Philippine Airlines is reasserting itself as one of Asia's premier airlines in the face of increasing international competition.
In the 1960s, the airline entered the jet age with the purchase of a Boeing aircraft, allowing flights to commence to Europe and the United States. After the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines in the 1970s, the government declared a one airline policy and Philippine Airlines became the country's national carrier and the only airline to fly in and out of the country for the next decade. From there, the company has continued to grow.
Today, the airline flies to 56 destinations across 4 continents and operates a fleet of 54 aircraft including Airbus A320s and A330s and its flagship, Boeing 777. The company currently employs over 5,000 people across three major hubs and prides itself on its community work. Corporate responsibility and social development have been the aims of the company's charitable PAL Foundation since 1995
